Why We Need Your Support Access to Health Care is Critical |

AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAP) are state and federally funded programs that provide medications to more than 166,000 low-income HIV patients including more than 1,200 in Wisconsin. These programs provide life-saving medications to HIV-positive individuals who have no other access to treatment. Currently, more than 1,000 HIV-positive individuals in ten states are on waiting lists to receive their medications, and the situation is going to get much worse if there are not additional, immediate resources. Many state ADAPs have been forced to put in place barriers to accessing their program and last week an Illinois panel recommended the immediate closing of ADAP to new applicants and the start of a waiting list. Other states have also restricted ADAP eligibility, changed the formulary, and closed enrollment. The situation is dire and without immediate additional funding it will only get worse. Acting now will ensure that more states including Wisconsin avoid this perilous situation. We need your help to ensure that the Obama Administration and Congress take action to help those in need of vital medications! |
